Pinphone issues (gmail and office mail)

Hi folks,

I have the Pinphone 3GS with 16Gb firmware 1_1_6

And I have troubles with configuring e-mail.
first of all Gmail with IMAP isn't working (not over GPRS and not over WIFI)

second issue is, what software to pick for connecting to pushmail / exchange server with outlook webmail enabled?

Any users with experience here?

Oh and last of all:
When I go to gmail.com in the browser the browser detects Chinese as region. So chinese is covering the screen. This happens also in Google, Youtube and that kind of websites who are ittelligent enough to detect mobile region settings. The language is ofcourse set to English.

Does anyone know how to set language in Safari to English?
It's almost impossible now to use the Safari browser with only chinese characters on the screen..

So I think you are browsing with the integrated WAP browser?!

Just use Opera Mini 4.2 for it.


Did you already configured GPRS?
It could be that the problem is caused by an unconfigured GPRS Account. I know it sounds crazy, but it could be.


Which firmware do you have:
I835S ... 1_1_6
or
I835NG ... 1_1_6?

Yes, I did configure my GPRS account, but since I received my Pinphone on may 31st, I was not able to use GPRS connection.

The only browser that actually works with my WiFi disabled is the Safari browser. But as I understand now from you, it works with WAP, not with GPRS. I also have Bolt, Opera mini 4.2, Snaptu etc installed in Java, but non of these programs are working with GPRS...

With WiFi everything works perfectly fine!

So there must be something wrong with my GPRS settings. However, I still haven't find out what. I’ve read almost every article in this forum in the meantime, but without results so far.

GPRS settings for SE K850i are not available from my provider KPN.
I also tried website Sony Ericsson for that, but I do not receive anything from them.
In Engineer Mode (*#3234#), under Misc. - Internet Application - User Agent, I’ve already selected NokiaN93.

MMS is working OK.
E-mail is working OK (but must be using WAP connection, since my GPRS doesn't work)

I’m pretty sure that the GPRS settings for my provider are the right ones.
What could I have done wrong?

Hi there! I've done a lot of research on the Gmail problem but no success in making it work. Try Yahoo, it works perfectly! Regards!

I think the problem with getting gmail to work is that the email client does not seem to support SSL which gmail requires for POP or IMAP access.
At least I don't see any setting that would allow SSL to be activated... so the server does not respond.
